What is Post-Impressionism?

When, where, and who?

Post-Impressionism unites the art of painters who rejected Impressionist ideas. In 1910, British art critic Roger Fry was the first to use this term.

Those painters didn't want to focus their art on nature or light, as impressionists did. Instead, they were interested in discovering how works of art can provoke emotions.
Post-Impressionism appeared after the last Impressionist exhibition and gave impetus to the development of further great art movements, such as Expressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Surrealism, and modern art in general.
